Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who are physiotherapists (physical therapists) and what can they do for me?

A: Physiotherapists are university trained, licensed healthcare professionals. Physiotherapy is concerned with human function and movement and maximising potential. Physiotherapists work to restore and maintain a client's strength, mobility and function through the combined use of functional exercises, manual techniques and electrotherapy.

The main goals in physiotherapy are for clients to achieve freedom from pain, prevent injury recurrence and return to an independent lifestyle at home, work and in sport

Q: Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?

A: Since 1990, a doctor’s referral is no longer required in order to receive physiotherapy treatment. However, some insurance companies still request a doctor’s referral in order to reimburse physiotherapy treatment fees. It is the responsibility of the patient to check their coverage and verify if a doctor's referral is necessary or not.
